Remember on this ride how loud the gunshots were? As well, I have a vivid recollection of that lava spewing volcano and how it smelled!!!

In addition to the Chaparral Cars which are still going, they used to have little racy cars. They were near where Splash Water Falls now is. We loved to drive those more than the "old-timey cars." Also, Sid and Marty Kroft had a puppet show in what is now the GoodTimes Theater. It was the first Muppets I saw. The old Mexican Train was over about in the area of "The Viper" (the bobsled ride). It was a little train and there were mannequins of a man sleeping and (do I remember this right?) a wife chasing her husband. And remember Skull Island? It was about where Runaway Mountain now is. We climbed into a big skull and could slide out of it. As a child it was always a little frightening. Lastly, I loved the French boat ride past the "gunfire" and into the waterfall that magically parted. Now it is replaced by Roaring Rapids (which I also love.) I miss the old days. One more, remember the Spinning Jenny? It was the horse drawn carousel by the Spelunker Cave.

Item_name: Clown Statue
Location: Good Times Area, I think
Years_in_park: mid 80's

I must have half a dozen pictures of me and my friends sitting next to the clown on the park bench. Remeber, he had his arm stretched out so it looked like he had his arm around you. We would make all kinds of vulgar poses with him. I wonder if he's still there?

Animation of an old man sleeping in a jail cell. He snored real loud and his belly moved up and down. You could only see him if you walked up and looked through the "cell" window. He was there for years, but gone now.

Item_name: Station Master in Texas Depot
Location: Texas Depot
Years_in_park: Still there (some of it)
Date: 14 Oct 1998
For as long as I can remember, there has been a station master sitting inside his Texas Depot office diligently tapping out some unknown message in morse code. Ever present on the desk in front of him was his half eaten sandwich, a big slice of chocolate cake and a train schedule book. He is still there but unfortunately his food and the book are long gone and he no longer taps his message. I can still remember when I was 7 or 8 years old peaking through the bars surrounding his office and thinking how cool the display was.

Item_name: The Old Employee's Canteen
Location: Food Service
Years_in_park: 1979-81
Date: 24 Oct 1998
The old employee's canteen was literally a "hole in the wall". It was only big enough for about 8 employees to sit down, was painted a puke-green color, and the air was thick with grease. But the double meat/double cheese cheeseburgers they served there were the best burgers I've had in my life. They tore down the old canteen when the new modern one was built in 1980. I was the night manager at the new one. The food was good, but the burgers were never the same again.
